Savannah Fire Station 5, located at 6 West Henry St., is one of the oldest continuously operating fire stations Savannah Fire and Emergency Services. The City of Savannah built the station in 1936 in conjunction with the WPA.
In conjuction with Station 3 and Station 2 (when Station 2 was located on North Martin Luther King Blvd.), the firefighters of Station 5 were the first line of defense when fire threatened to destroy the early residences and businesses built during the Colonial period of Savannah.
Today, Savannah firefighters still stand ready to preserve the lives and property of the citizens and vistors to City of Savannah - the First City of Georgia.
Battalion Chief 1 rides out of Station 5. The Chief has an admiistrative office and living quarters here.
Rumor has it that Station 5 is to relocate a few blocks away in the not too distant future.
