The station was originally a private home until Savannah Fire Department expanded to the Southside in 1997. Station 2 is strategically located to respond to calls to the deep southern area of the City, along with Station 10.
The firefighters pictured to the right (from left to right) are Firefighter Joshua
Homan, Master Firefighter Ken Bethune and Captain Paul Strojny of Engine 2 C Shift.
(Captain Paul Stronjy and Master Firefighter Ken Bethune are second generation Savannah
firefighters.)
The firefighters of Station 2 serve a large area on the Southside. As with all Savannah Fire Department crews, these firefighters respond to emergencies in their assigned response area, provide in-home fire safety checks (which includes smoke detector installation and battery replacement), in-station blood pressure checks and develop pre-incident plans for structures in their area.
Stop by and visit your firefighters. Be prepared, though. They are normally out in the commuity providing services or conducting professional and technical development training.
You may notice the younger Holt Coursey (now Captain at Engine 10)
on the lower left of this picture. He was the newest addition and youngest member
of the company at the time the picture was taken.
