James Arthur Watson Collection

The Savannah Fire Department photos here are compliments of James A. Waston (Savannah Fire Captain, Retired). Capt. Watson has been gracious in allowing me acess to his personal collection so the photos can be copied and included in this growing history of the Department.

As I speak with Capt. Watson, his love of the Fire Department and respect for firefighters of all eras is apparent. Like most fire people I know, he enjoys telling the firehouse stories - hopefully I'll capture some of those, too.

1945 Savannah Fire Department Souvenir Yearbook

I'll start with the pages from a Savannah Fire Department Souvenir Yearbook dated from July 1945 to July 1946. Capt. Watson joined the Fire Department in 1946 and apparently started collecting memorabilia right away.

Among the really cool stuff Capt. Watson has collected is a photo copy of a booklet with pictures of the firefighters from 1906. The cover is not available, but at the top of each page is "Historical Souvenir Savannah Fire Department", so I'm assuming this is a very early version of a yearbook.
