Savannah Fire Department's retired firefighters and officers built the Department into what it is today; and, layed the foundation for the Department's future.
They lived in a time we now call "history". They added value not only in the sense of improving the Department materially or with tactics and strategies; but; through adding their personal touch. Their stories.
Where would Savannah be in the area of HazMat response if not for Jim Phillips
and Jeff Dickey? They layed the foundation when HazMat in Savannah was not a popular
idea.
Where would Savannah be in the capabilities to professionally perform vehicle extrication if not for Robert Simpson or Austin Pool?
The personal stories about men and women who gave of their energy, imagination and (too often) blood to "Serve and Protect" the citizens of Savannah.
Take the time to recognize these heroes. Tell your story or the story of someone you know that has served with Savannah Fire. As each of us pass, these stories about the person, the firefighter and what they meant to us and Savannah passes away untold. Lost forever.
Share your stories with the world! Retirees ARE the history of the Department!
No time for modesty - Share it!
