The first challenge of finding a home business is in the shear number of them out there. In addition, we are usually introduced to a business by a friend , co-worker or find one ourselves on the internet that sounds good. But, does it fit into your personality or goals?

This often leads to many people not performing an adeqaute level of due diligence to determine if the business is what it claims to be or is even legitimate.

After all, the business oportunity was recommended by a friend or relative. And, you trust THEM. That's why many home businesses, network marketing, and multi-level marketing (MLM) organizations depend upon. It doesn't make them illegitiamate pyramind schemes. Just make sure to check out the business offering yourself - especially the income claims.

• What you're WILLING to do to get what you want
• Investigate the company and your sponsor (if that applies)
• Talk with or meet the people with whom you will be in business

Today, large numbers of people are searching for legitimate home business ideas to either replace the job they have lost or buffer against the potential downsize of their company.

Even the traditional sales professions, like real estate, have suffered with low sales. And, the drop in home market values has the effect of lowering their income when they do make a sale. Yes, things will pick up - but when is anyone's guess.

All across the United States professional firefighters and teachers are experiencing strains on their job security. Both have historically been very safe jobs in economic cycles. However, today firefighter and teacher promotions, pay increases, and even hirings have been frozen.

The home based business industry is saturated with claims of fraud and deceit - so how do you find a company that is legitimate AND fits your personality. Frankly, you have to take your time to investigate - known as performing due diligence.

The internet is full of "GURUs", scams and shams. You need to be careful and ALWAYS perform your due diligence. Many of the "ads" are simply landing pages designed to spark interest and get you name and email address - list building.

I'm not one to be long winded - 30 years in the fire service conditioned me to be pretty straight forward. And, personally, I don't care to read a bunch of "sales pitch". So here's the straight skinny - as I know it.

I've discovered with my own experiences that it doesn't matter WHAT can be done with the company financially as much as What I'm Willing to Do!

Yeah, I'm one of the many people who have looked at a number of home businesses. I've learned to judge a business by what it can contribute to my own plan and set of goals - which I recommend as your first order of business.

Without your own goals and plan to guide you in a direction for your success, most home businesses would seem to be the ticket.

However, you may soon find you're working more to accomplish the financial success of some other person more than you own.

Nothing wrong with that - as long as you do it willingly and wittingly.

Before you look at a home business idea, have your goals written down. Its a proven fact that people who have their goals clearly defined and written have a much better prospect for success. Our brain will find a path to the successful attainment of our goals when we have them clearly defined and embedded in out mind.

3. Post pictures of your goals around your home.

No kidding, this really works - when you are diligent in your practice. There is nothing magical or mystical. No deep secrets. Simply your brain at work!
