There is one thing all fire departments have in common - firefighters routinely go from being at rest to very strenous exertion in a matter of minutes. No time to warm up like football players before the game. So, the better your fitness level, the stonger your heart, the better your body can take the acceleration!
With an additional 30 to 50 pounds of fire protective clothing, including breathing apparatus, and the shear adrenalin rushing through your body, and, you have a demand on your body to which on professional atheletes generally experience. But with no time outs left.
